On board to Uruguay!

From our luxurious adventure in Argentina to the simple life (truly!) of rural Uruguay.

Straight from the airport in Buenos Aires to the ferry to Colonia, Uruguay. After an unfortunate bump along the way (Clara lost a fight with the corner of a metal chair at the Ferry terminal that resulted in gushing blood in her gum and lots of REALLY LOUD SCREAMING… luckily teeth are still in place and no stitches needed 🙂 ) we arrive to Colonia del Sacramento (of course no hotel reservations, late night, hungry and holiday in Uruguay so hotels are full! Ha, ha… all funny in retrospect. Let the real adventure begin!). Colonia del Sacramento is an old, charming town with stone paved streets and colorful historic buildings right by the shore of Rio del Plata, that we fall in love with.
The following afternoon we rent a car and head to the remote countryside. Did I mention remote? We feel like we have traveled back in time many decades: ancient cars and motorcycles and even families riding in carts pulled by horses just to mention a few examples. Try to find information about Carmelo and Conchillas on the internet if you can 😉 Truly an experience!
We have enjoyed a rented rustic (rustic as in bear bones!) cabin in the middle of nowhere where we have relaxed and have indulged on delicious Uruguayan wine (Tannat, a tasty local varietal), meats and salads. Don Alberto has taken us in and has cooked for us in his big kitchen at the warmth of a big log stove (no natural gas in Uruguay!).
We leave Uruguay filled with memorable moments and life lessons. We feel lucky to be a part of so many different worlds; from the glamorous life in Buenos Aires to the very simple life of Uruguay, we have enjoyed every moment. We are proud of the kids for bouncing from one to the other and embracing it all.

Back in time...
Back in time…

From Iguazú!

From the humbleness of mankind in Buenos Aires to the power of Mother Nature in Iguazú Falls.
Iguazú Falls are spectacular waterfalls with over 250 drops that expand over 2.3 km between Argentina and Brazil. What an incredible experience of unbelievably beautiful scenery and rich wildlife!
Fortunate enough to be able to stay at the only hotel inside the National Park surrounded by rainforest and waterfalls, we have hiked freely to enjoy every path and every angle of this natural wonder.
The volume of water flowing, the breathtaking jumps and the furious sound of the falls are captivating and mesmerizing. Seeing to believing… Not to mention the zillion shades of green that the rainforest has offered us: endless forests of trees and plants, vines and leaves of all shapes and sizes. Magic downpours and dramatic clouds.
We have also spotted monkeys, coatis and even toucans! Sadly no jaguars… but given our location we were not allowed to leave the hotel after sundown which is when jaguars are active 😉
We think we may hop over to Uruguay next… we’ll see!
